We all have one of those learning-to-drive stories. This one was with my dad. He had just finished restoring a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle for me for my 16th Birthday complete with a “Corvette Yellow” paint job. After presenting it to me, hopping and hopping into the passengers seat, I proceeded to “slip the clutch” and rammed it into the rear end of our neighbor’s raised pickup – obliterating the just-painted hood. He just looked at me with a blank stare, got out, and shook his head.
